21.Oktober: soccer day!!

I woke up at 10.30, then I had breakfast and when my little brothers came from church i played football with them. At 2 o´clock I went to play soccer. That was my first international game, because we Germans played against the Americans. But I was surprised how good the Americans could play. Later we mixed the teams to make game more interesting. It was fun. In the evening I worked with my computer, wrote on Facebook and checked my e-mails.

Wednesday, 17.10

We've visited the Mt. Rushmore. Everybody was excited! First we saw the Crazy Horse, it is not ready yet, but you could guess the face from the Indian. The horse was just drawn in the stone. It took 25 years to do that, I think they need again at least 25 years to get ready.
When we arrived at MT. Rushmore it was very cold, but great at the same time! I always thought that just pictures are that pretty, but it was better than each picture! Everybody took a lot of photos and then we started with group photos. It took a long time and when we finished it started to snow. It was my first snow of the year and I really loved it so instead of going inside I enjoyed it. But it got too cold to stay outside so I went to the gift shop. They sold every thing imaginable! From heads over cups to jewelry. Of course everything with the four presidents heads on it.
After everybody looked and bought enough we went back to our beautiful big lodge of course not without looking at the great surrounding area at the journey!
In the evening we cooked together spaghetti. It was a great feeling to eat in our group. We are a good community.

Yesterday was kind of a busy day. We went to a town called Waverly to watch the homecoming parade of the Wartburg College, which is located in this town. To all of you who do not know, homecoming means lots of people who studied at this college came back und watch the actual students showing their support for the college.

The parade that we saw was short but nice to see. It reminded me a bit of a parade at the “Erntefest” in Germany, because there were lots of people driving around in cars, screaming, playing music, throwing candy and just having a celebration with the people around them, watching from the Sidewalk like we did.

After that, we had the chance to visit the University and it reminded us a lot of school, but there was a music part with rooms with just a piano and two chairs in it.

Then we went on in the bus, to a Mall where we all bought T-Shirts of the UNI, the University of Northern Iowa. It is just incredible how much stuff you can buy to show your support for a University and I am very happy to have this kind of shirt now.

And it was very helpful, too, because after the mall, we went to a Football game.

UNI against a team from South Dakota. That’s another interesting thing, University teams playing against each other and everybody is interested in it.

I understood the game a little bit, but the best thing was definitely the marching band in the break.

Finally, we came back to Charles City and were even to tiered to have a game night, so we were just happy to sit together, eat and talk. What a nice day !

The morning after the power outage

DAY 3 in South Dakota

Today was an awesome day!
Homecoming Parade in Wartburg
It started early in the morning at the radio station of Charles City to give an interview to them. That was a new experience for me and it was very cool to do this together with Christian, Isabelle and Simon.
After this we met all the others at Charles City High School to start our trip in an typical american schoolbus in direction to Wartburg where we have seen the homecoming parade of their High School.
UNI - Dome and the Marching Band
Later we went to a small Mall where we stopped before arriving at UNI (University of Northern Iowa) - Dome.
At the beginning we saw a the great marching band of their collage which was really really good and fascinating too. Of course we saw the cheerleaders as well.
It was a good Game I think because the Panthers won 27:6 and did a great job against the team from South Dakota. It was good to feel the atmosphere in the Dome and to see how they support their team! I really enjoyed our time there.
When the  Match was over we had the chance to take fotos with the footballplayers and of course we did!

And it is again my turn to describe this day. So one hour before this day ends i am in a kind of hurry. First of all we started today in our great house at 9 AM and headed towards the Badlands. I would describe them windy and rocky , which was actually all you can see and feel there. But this whole area and the view were just magnificent  If you just imagine that the early pioneers just went with their whole families through this windy and unfriendly land, you will definitely think different about them. So after a walk through the hills and a long bus tour we finally arrived in Wall, again. At the end of this day i just hope that we will not arrive that late in CharlesCity tomorrow.
